Who We Write

Residential fence installers (wood, vinyl, chain-link, aluminum), commercial and industrial fencing, and specialty (deer, pool, security) fence operations.

The Coverage Stack You’ll Want

  • General Liability — $1M/$2M standard, structured with the additional-insured endorsements your accounts require.
  • Workers Comp — required for any NJ employee, including most officers.
  • Commercial Auto — service vehicles and employee drivers.
  • Tools & Equipment — your tools wherever they live, plus installation floater where you install customer materials.
  • Commercial Umbrella — extra limits over GL, Auto, and EL.

Carrier Notes

Standard markets — Travelers, Nationwide, The Hartford, AmTrust, Cumberland Mutual — write fence contractors comfortably. The thing to confirm is XCU coverage on the GL, because every post hole is a potential underground utility strike.

NJ-Specific Considerations

  • XCU coverage — Explosion, Collapse, Underground. Post-hole digging strikes gas, water, electric, and telecom lines. Confirm XCU is on your GL — some policies exclude it by default.
  • NJ One-Call — you’re required to call before you dig. Documentation matters at claim time.
  • Pool fencing — NJ has specific barrier code requirements; installation-defect exposure if a non-compliant fence contributes to an incident.
  • Property damage during install — damage to landscaping, irrigation, and adjacent structures is routine.
Fence Installers Questions

Common questions.

Fence installers — utility-strike exposure?
Real, especially on post-hole digging. Confirm XCU (Explosion, Collapse, Underground) is on your GL — it’s sometimes excluded by default. We confirm it at bind.
Do I need to call NJ One-Call?
Yes — you’re required to call before you dig, and documentation of the call protects you at claim time if you do strike a line.
Pool fencing — any special considerations?
NJ barrier code is specific. A non-compliant install that contributes to an incident is a products-completed exposure; we make sure your limits and structure fit.
I hit an irrigation line installing a fence — covered?
Property damage to the customer’s system is a standard GL claim, subject to deductible.
