Solar installer mounting a rooftop PV panel

Who We Write in This Trade

Specialty contractors across NJ — anyone working a niche trade outside the 14 trades listed in our hub. Tell us what you do and we’ll place it.

Carrier Appetite

Varies by trade. Many specialty trades fit standard market (sealcoating, gutter, garage door, fencing). Some have known harder-placement reality (basement waterproofing, foundation repair, solar). We tell you straight which market your trade routes to.

The Coverage Stack You’ll Want

  • GL — $1M/$2M. Trade-specific exposure varies — we ask the right questions at quote based on your operation.
  • Workers Comp — required for any employee in NJ. Class codes matter — we audit them at quote.
  • Commercial Auto — trucks, vans, trailers, employee drivers.
  • Tools & Equipment — tools, trailers, installation floater if you install customer materials.
  • Commercial Umbrella — recommended; sits over GL, Auto, and EL.

NJ-Specific Considerations

  • Pools (in-ground) — drowning exposure on completed-operations is severe; tighter carrier appetite.
  • Solar/PV — cross-trades with roofing and electrical. Carrier panel is narrowing but still placeable.
  • Basement waterproofing / foundation repair — products-completed claims are common (continuing water intrusion). Harder placement.
  • Sealcoating, gutter, garage door, fencing — broad standard market for most operations.
  • Tell us your trade. We’ll route it correctly and tell you the market reality upfront.

FAQ

Common questions.

My trade isn’t on your list — do you still write it?
Yes — that’s the whole point of this page. Tell us what you do on the intake form. We write more than the 14 named trades.
In-ground pool installation — placeable?
Yes, but tighter market. Drowning exposure on completed-operations is the underwriting focus.
Basement waterproofing — products-completed risk is high — can you place it?
Yes, but expect tighter underwriting and pricing. Continuing water intrusion claims years post-install are a known industry issue.
Solar installation — different conversation than roofing?
Cross-trades with both roofing and electrical. Some carriers exclude PV from roofing forms; we get the right placement.
Garage door installation — broad market?
Yes, generally. Standard contractor placement with no special considerations beyond the install-floater question.
