NJ Electricians Insurance | NJCIC
Service, residential new-construction, commercial, industrial — each is its own carrier appetite. Fire causation drives the products-completed operations exposure long after the job ends.

Who We Write in This Trade
Solo service electricians, residential new-construction operations, commercial electrical contractors, industrial/specialty (data center, generator, EV charging, solar/PV) operations.
Carrier Appetite
Standard panel: Travelers, The Hartford, Nationwide, AmTrust, Merchants Mutual, Next. Solar/PV cross-trades with roofing and has its own carrier considerations. Industrial work (generator, switchgear) sometimes routes to specialty markets given higher-severity exposure.
The Coverage Stack You’ll Want
- GL — $1M/$2M standard. Fire causation is the biggest exposure; products-completed limits matter long after the job ends (a fire 4 years post-install is your claim).
- Workers Comp — supervisor payroll splits help. Solar work has its own class code — get it on the policy if you do PV.
- Commercial Auto — trucks, vans, trailers, employee drivers.
- Tools & Equipment — wire pulls, meters, test equipment, generators. Installation floater for customer-supplied panels/equipment.
- Commercial Umbrella — recommended; sits over GL, Auto, and EL.
NJ-Specific Considerations
- NJ Licensed Electrical Contractor (LEC) required for the qualifying license holder. We confirm at intake.
- Solar/PV work — cross-trades with roofing. Some GL carriers exclude or sublimit PV; we get the right form.
- EV charger install — emerging exposure, generally fits standard market.
- Generator install — installation floater for the unit while in transit and pre-install.
- Data center / commercial mission-critical work — higher-severity exposure; carrier appetite narrower.
